Ayden's Newborn Photos

Ayden cooperated pretty well for his very first photo shoot at 5 days old.  We only managed to get a couple pictures outside...he didn't like the sun too much and it was a little cool.  But, once we got inside, he was a trooper and performed on the spot.  He was his adorable, sleepy self...snoozing away for the camera.

Ayden 's first of many family photos

Allie did AWESOME as she usually does for photos...that's my girl!  Way to be a big sis!  Her and Todd played around a bit while I tried to get the little man happy and hopefully smile for a picture or two.  Allie loves goofing around with her daddy.

Super-doper big sister smile

My sweet little guy...

Sorry Allie, I'm sure he'll get the hang of the whole picture taking thing soon.  You'll have to teach him a thing or two.

I really wanted some sibling photos of the big sister and little brother.  This photo is one of my favorites.  How sweet is this...

Here's my little guy as cute as can be.   He's lovable, cuddly, joyful, and sweet...all the things that just make my heart melt.  I'm trying to savor each precious and special moment with this little guy because I know how fast he will grow.  My tiny peanut won't be a "newborn" for long...

Ayden's Birth Story

Ayden James joined our family bright and early on Friday, September 13, 2013 (yep! Friday the 13th).  Thursday night, after working a LONG day at school, then carting Allie to swim class, and dinner out afterwards at Applebee's (Allie's request), I starting having contractions at around 10:00 pm.  We called Nana and Papa to come over "just in case" anything were to happen...and at around 1:00 I decided it was time to drive to the hospital.  Todd and I contemplated when to go in...we didn't want to get there and be turned away...or have to wait half the night to get admitted.  I left our house thinking this is the last time my Allie will be an only child.  Her world is about to be turned upside down...and so is my night.

In triage the doctor found I was dilated to a SEVEN!  I was admitted right away.  I think I handled the contractions pretty well.  Todd said I didn't even look like I was in labor.  It must have been all those maternity squats I did during the summer.  Being at a SEVEN, I was afraid I was going to miss my opportunity to have my epidural.  I was quickly taken to room 1 and the blood work began.  After FOUR attempts to get an IV going, I waited very impatiently for the anesthesiologist to arrive.

Lucky for me he made it in time...no baby just yet.  The anesthesiologist quickly rambled off all the terrible things that could happen to me as a result to having a needle shoved into my spine.  It's amazing how much you don't care when you are in pain and just want it to GO AWAY!  I signed my life away and started feeling MUCH better...very quickly!

Last photo of the baby bump!

About 30 or so minutes after the epidural I started feeling pain again...it went from zero to about a nine in 2 minutes.  Todd called for the nurse and the nurse immediately called for the doctor when I started pushing uncontrollably...there was no stopping me.  I wasn't about to wait around all day.  The doctor barely made it back into the room before the baby's head was crowning.  I pushed for somewhere in between 5 and 10 minutes...and at 5:02 am, our handsome little Ayden James melted our hearts forever.

Ayden weighed in at 7 lbs, 2 oz and was 20 inches long...and he was 2 full WEEKS early.  He cried and cried upon his arrival into the world.  Little buddy, I would have cried too!  That was some trip you and I had together.  I love you to pieces, but boy did you make me miserable those last 6 weeks!

I'm still amazed that this little being came from me.  Those little ears.  That little nose.  Those tiny hands grabbing my finger.  He's so sweet and precious.  He fills the other third of my heart with joy.

Allie was Ayden's first visitor.  She was SOOOO excited to meet her little baby brother.  She wanted to hold him immediately and didn't want to let anyone else have a turn.  Allie was very possessive of her little man and very content holding this precious baby on her lap.

Allie received a little gift from her new brother...a personalized "big sister" necklace with her birthstone and a "big sister" cup of her very own (which she filled up with apple juice from the hospital nourishment station every day she came to visit).  Thanks Ayden for the super cool big sister present. You ROCK!

This is the first of MANY sticky bellie photo shoots. Ayden cooperated pretty well for his first sticker...until he pooped all over his onesie...and all over my bed. But, at least we got the photo!!!

All dressed to blow this pop stand and see the world outside the hospital.  Walking out of our hospital room was bitter sweet knowing that this will be my very last stay at the birthing center.  Our family of FOUR is going home, but OH how I wish I could have stayed just a little bit longer.  Giving birth wasn't so bad when the nurses took Ayden so I could sleep, gave me medication without having to remember, delivered all my meals to my bedside.  Although I don't have all those luxuries at home, it felt so good to walk into our house with little Ayden, knowing that our family is complete.

My Journey Through Pregnancy

Welcome, Ayden James!!!  Week 38 marks the very last week of my baby belly.  It's hard to believe that our chalkboard found it's new home in our basement storage room.  Every week for the past 32 weeks, Todd (and Allie) have taken a picture of my growing bump.  Allie INSISTED on also taking a photo of me after we convinced her week after week to let Daddy do it first.

Little Ayden made me quite uncomfortable at the end.  My back hurt so bad that I usually ended up playing musical beds each night...from my bed, to the floor, to the couch...and even to Allie's giant bean bag in her room.  We are so glad he's finally here...and so are my ribs and lungs.  He arrived TWO WHOLE WEEKS EARLY at 7lbs, 2oz.

Here's a recap of my baby belly bump in photos.  This will be the last baby belly my body will see.  Our family is finally complete.

Mini Goldfish

This little fishy has moved up to the "I swim all by myself class" and it's been a bit of a rough road. Allie cried pretty much the whole first class she attended. It took every bit of me to not go in there and save my screaming baby. The second class she cried for about 15 minutes of her 30 minute class and the third class only 7 minutes. It's getting better, but Allie is deathly afraid of going under water. She hasn't mastered that skill just yet and refuses to put her face anywhere near the water.

A couple weeks ago however, we made a little bit of progress.  Allie received her very first ribbon for blowing bubbles in the water.  YEAH!!!  Big accomplishment.

Todd took Allie to Toys R Us to buy her a fun pair of goggles and a pack of super cool Sofia stickers to have after each class as a little incentive. Keeping our fingers crossed that Allie will start to enjoy swim lessons again.

No Labor this Labor Day

Our labor day was NOT spent in labor...unfortunately!

As much as I don't want to feel labor pains...I am more than ready today to have this baby meet his new parents and big sissy.  Last night I started having some minor contractions here and there.  I was sort of...kind of hoping that I would be making my way to the hospital for a labor day baby.  Even though it would have been a HUGE inconvenience to not be starting the school year on Tuesday with my new kiddos.  However, I woke up in the morning with my big round belly still attached to my non-existent abs (that I do hope to see again real soon here).  This baby will be here before we know it!  I figured if I wanted to capture any more shots of this baby belly before it is gone forever, I better do it today.
