Allie had a little surprise when the doorbell rang around 6:30 this evening.  Our family friend (aka: our awesome babysitter) wanted to surprise Allie with a trip to Dairy Queen on her visit home from college for the weekend.  Allie ADORES Katherine!  As soon as she opened the door and saw her, she darted upstairs to get her Bowling Green Falcons shirt Katherine bought for her.  When Katherine babysat Allie the last time, Allie wanted to wear the same shirt as Katherine's, and settled for a plain orange top she had buried in the bottom of her drawer.  A few weeks later, Katherine bought Allie a little gift from Bowling Green...and shirt just like hers, Allie size!  Allie wore her shirt for about 3 days straight.

After a quick wardrobe change, Allie and Katherine were off!  Katherine, you are the sweetest!  Allie was thrilled to see you at the door.  Thanks for thinking of her on her quick visit home!

As the Leaves Turn

This fall season is turning out to be WONDERFUL!!!!  The weather is sunny, yet cool enough for a hoodie...on most days.  I've enjoyed my PSL (aka: Pumpkin Spice Latte) on more than a few occasions.  AND...we've visited a FEW apple orchards and ciders mills the month of September...may FAVE!!!!

A few days ago, on my one lovely day off for Rosh Hashanah, Ayden and his best buds had a play date at Long's Orchard.  Ayden and I picked a couple apples and shared some cider slushy and doughnuts with his friends.  Us mommies were lucky enough to capture the sweet faces of our littles on the infamous GIANT rocking chair.

The weather couldn't have been nicer this the Hammerick's spent our Saturday afternoon back at the cider mill...but this time at Erwin's Orchard.  Allie had a blast on the inflatables, feeding the animals and riding on the tricycles (her feet actually reached the peddles this year).  We shared some doughnuts and cider before hitting up the apple orchard.

Allie was an apple picking pro!  We were sure to sample the apples before picking to make sure we really liked them...they were delicious!!!  We filled up our bag pretty quickly...with those GIANT apples!

Another apple picking day for the books.  Nice job, Team Hammerick!  Now, my little chef and I can hit up the kitchen to make this years apple muffins and applesauce (Ayden's FAVORITE)!

Small, But Mighty

Big things come in small packages.  Our little guy may only be in the 3rd percentile (following in his sissy's footsteps)...but he sure is MIGHTY!  Ayden weighed in at 18 lbs 12 oz (3%) and is 29 inches tall (21%).  This photo was taken just before his immunizations.  I hated them just as much as he did.  I can't stand to hear him cry in pain.  Good thing for the binky.

Mommy Guilt

Every working mom gets it...Mommy Guilt. I've had quite the case of it lately. New school, new grade, new team = TOO MUCH WORK!  I've neglected my own children while making it a point to put my whole heart and soul into making the first days with my school family the best ever. I'm pretty confident I've succeeded in creating a warm, loving, yet structured environment where my kids (in my school family) feel loved, excited to learn, proud, and just overall happy...what every parent wants for their child at school. I like my new school...and I really do love my class this year!!!

After working so hard all day long, I come home to dinner usually prepared by my husband (so thankful I don't have to waste time on that...thanks, Todd), and then I'm back working on something that needs to be prepped, read, or made. It's ridiculous how I feel like a first year teacher all over again.  Only this time with two small, very needy kids at home. I help put the kids to bed, then I'm back at it again on my laptop in bed.

My sweet, poor children all this while have missed their mommy. I've missed out on the sweet giggles and goofy scrunched-nosed smiles. I've missed out on the warm cuddles and "Let's talk about your day, Mommy."  Work is FINALLY starting to calm down and I feel like I have a good handle on things to point I don't have to work 24-7 in order to just make it through the next school day. I want my family back.

I'm sorry Todd, Allie and my sweet Ayden, who will only be a baby for just a short amount of time longer. I promise to pay attention to you more. I promise to leave school at a decent hour. And I promise to make this fast paced life we live slow down as much as possible. Thanks for helping Mommy with dinner, read my lesson plans, and set up my classroom. I couldn't have done it without you!

Festive Fall Fun

WE LOVE FALL!!!  Except for the fact that I have to go back to school (boo).  We love the cider mill, Halloween, pumpkin picking, apple cider, caramel apples, doughnuts....EVERYTHING!  Today we went to the fall fest at the farm only a short walk away.  Allie made sooooo many crafts, got her face painted and munched on yummy cookies...all while Ayden slept, almost the entire time!  HAPPY FALL Y'ALL!

FALL in Love...

As Ayden turns a year, it's that time again...Photograph time!  I can't let time just pass me by without capturing these sweet and precious moments that I know I will long for one day.  These days as I age, earn a few more wrinkles and gray hairs, I'll look back on the yester-years.  I won't remember those countless sleepless nights or busy, busy days filled with crumb covered floors, food smeared splotches on the shoulder of every shirt I own, butt paste and poop!  I'll look at these photos and feel the love and warms my babies brought me.  The best years of my life...

Our spunky, sassy, sweet Allie girl.  My how you've grown.  Always so photogenic and hams it up for the camera.  I just LOVE looking at your photos.

Curious Ayden just melts my heart...he is so sweet and lovable. It took a lot of work to get those photos on the bridge.  He wanted to climb overboard SOOOO bad!  Allie and I chased him around to get the perfect shots.  Ayden would only sit for about 3 seconds in the wagon before trying to stand up and climb out. He is on the MOVE!

Sibling sweet is this?!?!  Allie 3 years, 10 months.  Ayden 1 year.  My two little loves captured in time.  I wish they could stay this way forever.
Denise...I can't begin to thank you enough!!!  These were the best photos by far that we've had taken!  I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them!  I can't begin to express how thankful I am to have you.  Only a true friend would make a pit stop on their 14 hour trek back home to SC to take some quick photos of the Hammerick's.  You are the BEST!

Ayden, Ayden...What do you see?

"I see a party just for me!"  Brown Bear, Brown Bear is still one of my favorite children's books of all time. I still have memories of my kindergarten teacher reading this book to my class.  There are about 4-5 copies of this book floating around the Hammerick house...a well loved story around here.

After reading Brown Bear to Ayden (almost every single night) I only thought it was fitting to make some more warm memories with a Brown Bear 1st Birthday for the cutest cub I know.

The Brown Bear theme was not a very popular theme for a birthday I found some images online and went to town with my birthday decoration make'n crafty self!

Ayden had the perfect party shirt!  I still can't believe he is a YEAR old!!!

Allie was also dressed in her Brown Bear finest!  Her matching dress is a classic!

Lots of bears, balloons and everything rainbow!!!

Ayden's guests signed his Brown Bear birthday book and wrote a message to the birthday boy.

The birthday table was filled with everything Brown Bear.  Brown Bear cookies, White Dog cupcakes, and Goldfish crackers...marshmallow pops and chocolates covered pretzels too!

I think my favorite part of all the party decor is Ayden's 12 month banner. I put all of his Sticky Belly pictures on was sooooo cute!

Lots of Ayden's friends and family helped us celebrate Ayden's big day!  Austin, Carson, Lou, Addy, Brennan, Max, Ethan, Ainsley, Graham and Harrison.

Ayden refused to wear his birthday hat...but LOVED his cake!!!  Allie helped him blow out the candle. He took a little lick and went back for more...and more...and MORE!  Until he tried to dump it on the floor.

Time for presents!!!  Lots of fun toys. clothes, bibs, books and soooo much more!!!  Ayden did pretty well opening his gifts.

Ayden passed out a little bit of his Brown Bear book to his friends...rainbow paint, a rubber ducky, Brown Bear Teddy Grahams and Goldfish crackers.

It's hard to believe that exactly one year ago today, my little guy joined our family...and now we are celebrating his FIRST birthday!! This year flew by!  Don't blink because before I know it we will be celebrating double digits.

I hope Ayden looks back at his first birthday photos and feels how much he is loved by his family and friends.  I hope he sees what a happy, silly, and sweet boy he is. Happy Birthday, my sweet AJ!
