Long Distant Cousins

This past weekend Allie met her cousins for the very first time.  Sydney and Emma live in California and have never visited Michigan...until now.  The girls took to one another right from the start.  Squealing, giggling, game playing...it was like they've known each other all along.  Sydney and Emma were so sweet to Allie and even reminded her to go potty.  They were all so happy to be together, as long as no adults were around (that must be a 2nd and 3rd grade thing).  Allie just followed suit and did whatever her two cousins did.  "I'm playing with my cousins" is what she repeated at least 10 times.  She was so happy!

Maternity Photos

I know, I know...we have our photos taken a lot. Well, that's what happens when you have kids and major life changes going on. With a new baby, comes lots of photos to remember these precious times...times that go by so fast.

When I was pregnant with Allie, Todd was away most of the nine months in training and then to Boston. We didn't have the opportunity to have maternity photos taken together. However, I did have some taken of just me because I didn't know if pregnancy was going to ever come around again. Well...it did come around and this will be the last. The last chance we will have the opportunity to have photos taken of my growing belly...photos of our growing family.

Thanks, Denise for taking these awesome photos for us!!!  They came out fantastic!!!  I love them all and have so many favorites. You did a great job!  Allie just loves having you photograph her...or is it the M&M's she loves that we use to bribe her with?

A Swinging Good Time

Now that Allie is a growing toddler, it's about time we have some things for her to play with in our backyard...things for her to do while I relax with my frosty drink on our deck under our new umbrella.

Over the past couple months, we've spruced up our backyard a bit and added a few additions. We removed the UGLY arborvitae trees that the deer had been munching on for the past 3 years. I remember coming home from my maternity leave in Boston and seeing our 12 foot trees bare from about halfway down. What a waste of money. I finally convinced Todd to have them replaced with something deer proof...so in went 4 new pine trees.

I got ambitious one morning...I found the saw in our garage and started sawing off all the lower branches of the HUGE cottonwood tree behind our house. It looks so much better now!  Go me!  Who knew a pregnant girl could do manual labor.  I did have a little help from my strong husband.

A few weeks ago I purchased a slide for Allie from a former student (thanks, Samantha!). I stuck it under our newly trimmed tree along with Allie's basketball hoop. Then I got the bright idea to hang a swing from our trimmed up tree. Thanks to some other former students, we inherited an awesome bucket swing for Allie (thanks, Luke and Jack!).

So how did we get this brand new awesome swing up in our tree???  My most awesome dad, of course!  I was about to have a heart attack when he climbed up in the tree to reinforce the branch the swing hung from.  All I could picture was him falling out and breaking his back!  All went well though...thankfully!

Now, our backyard is the perfect place for Allie to play in all summer long. She loves her swing (as long as there are no bugs on it) and her slide (as long as there is no bird poop on it).

Seventh Month of Pregnancy

Weight Gain?  14 pounds

Sleep?  I still try to take a nap as often as I can.  It's getting uncomfortable to lay.  I cannot lay on my back because I feel like a 15 pound weight is on my stomach.  I sleep with a pillow on each side of me so I can shove it under my belly when I roll side to side.

Movement?  Lots of hands and feet try to poke their way out of my growing belly.  I feel like he's doing somersaults in there.

Food Cravings?  Watermelon.  I've been eating a LOT of watermelon...and Allie helps out too.  My stomach doesn't have a lot of room in there.  I get full really fast and everyone usually asks if I got enough to eat.  There's just no room.

What's Making Me Queasy?  Still nothing...YEAH!

Symptoms? My lower back is starting to have a bit of pain here and there.  My lungs are getting squished and I can't breathe half the day...especially after meals.  I'm pretty sure I'm starting to waddle...I definitely waddle as the day progresses.  I'm exhausted about half way through the day and get out of breath really easily when walking or climbing the stairs.

Mood?   Great!  My "Gotta get this stuff done before the baby arrives" to do list is getting shorter and shorter.  I'm checking things off each day...it's making me more and more relieved.

Looking Forward to...  Spending these last two months with my Allie girl and giving her as much attention as I can.  It's not long until our family of three is a family of four.  Also looking forward to having the baby's room painted and furniture delivered.  Most of the room SHOULD be completed this next month!  Yeah!

Best Moment of the Month?  Spending time with our family on our cruise.  We had so much fun relaxing, swimming, and playing...and napping.  Allie and I napped together everyday.  Our baby-moon vacation will not be forgotten.

Miss Independence

There's no better fitting title for this post...our Allie girl is becoming quite the independent girl.  While it becomes frustrating for Todd and I (and probably Nana and everyone who cares for Allie at day care) Allie INSISTS on doing everything HERSELF...from putting on her shoes (on the wrong feet), to brushing her teeth, going to the potty, getting dressed (usually when we are running late)...Allie wants to do it all herself.

This 4th of July was a fun one.  Allie was a happy girl when she saw a little something for her on the kitchen counter.  A few snacks for the day, some shades for the parade, a new ribbon to match her incredible independence day dress, and a new baton to twirl around...and hopefully not break something with.

Today was the PERFECT day for a parade...the weather was just warm enough but not scorching like last year.  We made a quick stop at Dunkin Doughnuts for breakfast where Allie happily picked out a red, white and blue doughnut to munch on while waiting for the parade to start.

The Northville parade was fantastic, as always, and Allie enjoyed collecting candy that others threw as they passed by.  I think she brought home more candy than she received at Halloween this past year.  Some of Allie's favorites were the dogs dressed in their best Americana wear and the marching bands.  Allie's buddy Preston met us also and I was able to take a quick pic of the two of them.  What good buddies!

After a quick nap, for Allie and me (I'm taking every opportunity to sleep now because I know pretty soon here I'm never sleeping again), we headed to our friend's house for a quick swim in the lake and dinner.   I had another adorable red, white and blue outfit for Allie to wear...what a cutie pie.  Allie and I swam and she loved hanging out on the giant raft.  Thanks for the invite, Soffa's!

Later that evening we put on our own fireworks show with our friends who live across the street...and everyone else that happen to be out for their evening walk.  10:00 was just too late for Allie to be up and we weren't quite sure if she would even like the fireworks.  Allie and Ainsley had a blast as Todd lit off some low key fountains.  They giggled and squealed!  It was too hilarious!!

For the grand finale we did some sparklers...under a very careful eye of Todd and I.  Allie eyes lit up as she held her very own sparkler for the first time.

Today we celebrated the birth of our nation, our people's Independence Day. We are thankful for those who fought for our country and will remember our many blessings.  Freedom is never given, it is won.  Happy 4th!
